Camping along the Mendocino Coast: Part 1

Ahhh….the California Coast, soooo incredibly beautiful! It has been almost a year since coming back home from living in Colorado. I will always have a special place in my heart for the Rockie Mountains but one thing I missed the most was the beautiful California Coast (and of course family!!) Growing up in the East bay I think I took for granted what California has to offer…some of the most amazing ocean AND mountain views, the best produce EVER, and the best city EVER! Now that I am back I have a greater appreciation. When I bit into a juicy peach and had a tri-tip dinner for the first time after returning I realized how awesome this place is!!

For Father’s day weekend, friends and family have been getting together annually to camp along the Mendocino coast at Manchester Beach KOA (Kampgrounds of America) , a beautiful camping ground along the the mendocino coast. In the past couple of years I have been hearing so many amazing things about this place I was excited to be able to join in on the fun. There are cabins to rent for the “I enjoy the outdoors but not a big camper,” RV sites for the “I love the outdoors but need to bring my bedroom with me,” and Tent sites for the “I love the outdoors and want to be close to nature as possible.” We stayed in a tent trailer this year but next year we will be renting a cabin! Ha! This place has it all, a heated pool, a jacuzzi, and fun activities for the kiddos. One night we enjoyed Ice Cream Social. Your probably asking… what kind of camping is this!? It’s my kind of camping that’s what it is!!

The first morning I woke up early to venture around the property and take some sunrise pictures. The air was crisp and ocean breeze was calling my name…

This was our campsite on Blue Coral Way…One of the things that some of us enjoy doing while camping is diving for abalone and spearing fish. The rest of us like to observe and then later eat the fruits of their labor! 🙂 A bunch of us (the abalone eaters) went out to watch the divers and enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately, I was too scared to walk across this very narrow cliff to be able to see them so I stayed back and took some photos of the beautiful nature that surrounded me. We then took a nice hike to a beach near by where my dog Tucker enjoyed chasing the seagulls…Stay tuned for Camping along Mendocino Coast Part II…
