Whether you want a serene outdoor session at the park, a modern urban session downtown, or a historic session in the city, just like your wardrobe, choosing a place for your engagement session should reflect your personality as a couple.
Here are some tips for narrowing down your options. And if you still can’t decide, I’d love to help you out!
Time of day is important! The golden early evening hour light is the best – it provides lots of warmth and isn’t overly bright or harsh. This light happens approximately 1-2 hours before sunset. Consider this time as you choose your location. Some places like botanical gardens close before this time. You may need to call and ask if you can gain access at this time or schedule as late as you can.
Choose a meaningful place. I love when couples choose a place that is very personal to them such as where they met, had their first date, proposed etc. I once had a couple do their engagement session at the airport! It reminds them of when they first met. They were on a very long layover and met the airport bar. It turned out so amazing! I also have shot at a couples favorite donut shop and the local carnival.
It’s who you know. Do you have any special connections to a sports stadium or private property? Maybe you are a giants fan and have connections to Oracle park! Or have a family friend who owns a ranch.
Think about doing your session during the week. Keep in mind: tourist areas are busy during weekends, so if you opt for one of those, do your engagement session on a weekday.
Consider a lifestyle session at home. Your home is where you feel most comfortable. Having a session where you feel most relaxed will give you timeless photos of the two you enjoying each others company. There are plenty of ways to spice them up. Do you enjoy cooking? Let’s do an in-home cooking engagement session! It’s also super easy to include your four-legged friends at an in-home session, too.
