For this couple’s maternity session, we went to the WPA Rock Garden in Sacramento, California. I’d already had the honor of capturing their wedding on September 29th, 2018, and now, I had the opportunity to shoot the start of their family!
Arianna and Brian are having their first baby, a girl who they’re naming Avery Madison, and Arianna wanted to take pictures in a place with a lot of blooms. When it comes to flower blooms, there’s no better place than WPA! The flowers were indeed all blossoming, making it perfect for their garden maternity session.
WPA Rock Garden is such a historic place for their shoot. The garden was established in 1940, and it was a Works Progress Administration project to help out-of-work professionals during the Depression. The garden has many nicknames from “The Maze” to “Ivy Garden.” It’s a bit of a hidden treasure. Not a lot of people know about it. But it’s quite beautiful with its winding paths and tons of flora.
Arianna’s outfit was so perfect for the shoot. She wore a beautiful and flowy blush dress. I love it when ladies wear flowy dresses for their maternity sessions. Not only is it comfortable and shows off the baby bump, but it looks so good in photos.
When choosing a maternity session outfit, I always recommend my clients wear something comfortable and soft, preferably in a natural palette. This way they can feel relaxed, and their pictures will be timeless. I recommend that the partner wear a complementing color, and Brian did perfectly. He wore khakis and a white polo, which looked great with Arianna’s dress.
You can see so much joy in this couple’s photos. It’s such a special time, and I feel so blessed that I got to be a part of it. I love shooting families because they’re just so much fun! I wish this couple all the best!
